Computerized DTS
Traction Therapy
Our office employs the use of the Chattanooga DTS spinal
traction table. This latest innovation features a computerized system that allows for more customized treatments to guide patients to deceased pain and more rapid recovery. Spinal traction can cause relaxation of muscle and separation of the spinal bones, and there is evidence that certain spine problems can be
helped by this therapy. We have had numerous patients benefit
tremendously from this procedure, and a simple process is used to determine if
you are a candidate for this treatment. When medically necessary, traction is typically covered by most insurance plans.
Please beware that there is
currently a lot of advertising hype about the use of traction tables for what is termed "decompression therapy". This is typically considered an investigational/experimental therapy and is not covered by most insurance plans.
Doctors receive
McKenzie training at Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Imbarlina and Dr. Tellin completed McKenzie Mechanical
Diagnosis and Therapy training at the Cleveland Clinic. This system
assists the doctors with diagnosis and choosing the best movements and
positions to assist recovery from back and neck pain.
Doctors have taken
Graston Technique training
Dr. Tellin, Dr. Imbarlina and Dr. Schneider have each been
trained in Graston Technique, which is a method of treating muscle and tendon
problems with the use of contoured stainless steel instruments that provide
deep mechanical stimulation of soft tissues. The technique works based upon the
premise that vigorous stimulation of soft tissue causes increased blood flow to
the area of muscle or tendon pain, thereby speeding up or recreating the
healing process. This method can be utilized for conditions such as
tennis or golfer's elbow, rotator cuff problems, plantar fasciitis, Achilles
tendinosis, and other muscle and tendon problems. Feel free to call the office
at (412) 833-6323 to ask the doctor if this treatment might help your
condition.
Dr. Schneider leaves
private practice:
Many of you who have been to the office within the past
several months are aware that Dr. Schneider has finished his PhD degree through
the University of Pittsburgh and has received a federal grant from the National
Institutes of Health to pursue his research. He left private practice and
is currently working at the University of Pittsburgh in the capacity of a
clinical researcher. While no longer in
private practice he remains available to the doctors in a consulting
capacity. Dr. Schneider transferred his
practice/patients to Dr. Imbarlina late in 2009 and the transition has gone
smoothly. Many of you have already met and been cared for by
Dr. Imbarlina. He is a native of
Pittsburgh, received his undergraduate degree from The University of Pittsburgh,
and went on to get his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the National
University of Health Sciences in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated in 1992. He
is an experienced and caring professional who will provide excellent care to
you and your family members.
Privacy Rights:
Most of you have now experienced a visit to your doctor’s
office where you were required to sign a rather long form about your health
care privacy rights. Every health care entity (doctors, hospitals, pharmacies
etc.) that keeps a record of any of your health care information is now
required by law to inform you of how your health care information will and will
not be used. How your individual health information will be used is now
governed by federal privacy standards. These privacy standards are part of the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that was created by
Congress in 1996 to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the health care
system. The privacy standards were finalized in October 2002 and are meant to
protect and guard against the misuse of individually identifiable health
information. Our office privacy policy is posted in the waiting area and a
copy is available to any patient. Please be sure to inform the office should
you have a specific request about your health care information not included in
our policy.
